Submissive Urination in Dogs
Many dogs, especially younger ones, release a small amount of urine when they feel a strong emotion, especially excitement. This is a physical, innate response that dogs in the wild often use in packs to recognize another dog as the leader. Many puppies demonstrate submissive urination, especially when they are excited, but it is something that most dogs will outgrow. Training can also help dogs get past the urge for submissive urination.
Excitement Urination
Some dogs get so excited that their body expels urine. Excitement urination is another condition that most dogs outgrow. Many will stop doing this by their first birthday. Although there is not much, you can do to stop excitement urination, and you can take your dog outside before any play sessions or visits from friends or family members. This way, they don’t have anything left to expel when they get excited. You should always address your dog in a calm, cheerful tone after excitement urination to avoid making them anxious.
When Is a Dog Peeing When Excited Too Much?
In most cases, a little urine when excited is normal. There are instances where excessive urination could be signs of a more serious medical issue, however.
